Getting Started With Mippin

Mippin is specifically designed to make content searching and reading as easy as possible on your mobile phone. And getting started couldn’t be easier.
The Mippin home page presents you with the most up-to-date featured stories. These are taken from our directory of Mippin sites. Clicking on ‘More’ will show you all the featured stories of the moment.
Underneath the featured stories, we have the widget area. Widgets are tiny applications that give you quick shortcuts to news, weather, horoscopes and more. The home page has the weather or Google News widget as default.

Underneath the widget area is the search box, which you can use to search for the content you want to read. Alternatively, simply enter a web address to visit a mobile optimised version of the site. Easy browsing is also possible with the list of content categories below the search box. These give you quick browsing access to our extensive directory of sites in Mippin. Mippin is customisable so that each time you visit, your favourite content is only a click away.

Finding Content

The beauty of Mippin is how easy we’ve made it to search for content. One simple entry box on the home page controls everything, allowing you to search for information or enter a web address. As long as the site you want has RSS feeds, then Mippin will present it to you in the perfect format for your mobile phone.
For instance, type ‘news’ into the search box and click on the ‘Go’ button and you’ll be presented with the most popular sites and the latest articles. You’ll also see that this search offers you a news widget at the top of the screen, which is a tiny application that delivers instant access to content.

Navigate back to the home page by using the ‘back’ button on your mobile phone. Underneath the search box on the home page, you will see the main content categories for our directory of sites in Mippin. Clicking on these presents you with a list of the top sites for each category. Alternatively, you can view what the latest sites to be added are, the most popular and the highest recommended.
And don’t keep it to yourself! You can vote for sites when you visit them by clicking the green thumbs-up or red thumbs-down icons at the bottom. And when you view stories, videos or images, you can instantly share them by email, Twitter, or on Facebook using the links at the bottom of the page.

Customising the Mippin Home Page

As soon as you start using Mippin, Mippin starts customising itself to the content you like.
For example, using one of the categories at the bottom of the home page, visit a site. Navigate back to the home page (by using the ‘back’ button on your mobile phone) and you will see that a shortcut link for the site has been added to a new section at the top of the home page called ‘Smart Favourites’. This brings your favourite sites only one click away.
You can also customise your home page with widgets, which are tiny applications that deliver instant access to news, weather, horoscopes and more.

To keep these settings and customise your home page further, click on ‘Save Favourites’ at the top. This allows you to create a free account that saves your home page preferences each time you visit Mippin. As you visit sites, simply look for the gold star at the bottom. Clicking on this instantly adds the site to MyMippin.

Widgets

Widgets are tiny applications that deliver instant access to news, weather, horoscopes and more.
The Mippin home page has a weather or news widget pre-installed. Widgets that can be controlled have a spanner icon in the grey title bar that allows you to change the settings. Click on the spanner for the weather widget and you will be presented with a drop-down list of locations to choose from. Select the new location and click ‘Go’. Then select ‘Update’ to make the change on the home page.
There are lots of widgets to choose from. From the Mippin home page, select ‘Widgets’ from the category list at the bottom. Then click on the widget you want to add. You will be shown the widget in action and any settings controls. Select the green ‘Add’ icon to add it to your home page. Select ‘Cancel’ to return to the Widget list.
Removing a widget from the home page is equally as simple. Just click on the ‘x’ next to the spanner icon.
